A few days ago we received by email the following bullet/invitation from the Social Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE) :

From SCIE:

Learning from safeguarding adults reviews

Events in Birmingham on 14 September and London on 20 September

Webinar online on 26 September

The Department of Health has commissioned SCIE and RIPfA to improve the quality and use of safeguarding adults reviews (SARs). There are three upcoming events on the theme of ‘Making the learning from Safeguarding Adult Reviews (SARs) accessible through a national library’.

So one message to take from this email is that the DoH recognises the need to improve the use of SARs…

This is section of the Care Act which deals with Safeguarding, Boards and Reviews: www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2014/23/part/1/crossheading/safeguarding-adults-at-risk-of-abuse-or-neglect/enacted . (A few Google searches  will pull up more information in Safeguarding).

Starting from the SCIE email, a process of ‘join the dots’ led us to realise that an update to the Care Act Guidance had been issued last Friday (17th August 2017)

The latest version of the Guidance can now be found here: www.gov.uk/government/publications/care-act-statutory-guidance/care-and-support-statutory-guidance

What has changed? you ask – and we asked.

Fortunately, we located this list of changes: www.gov.uk/government/publications/care-act-statutory-guidance/list-of-changes-made-to-the-care-act-guidance  .

Unfortunately, this list is cumulative, so it will require some effort to identify exclusively the latest changes. We are working on it, and will advise of anything significant, as soon as we can.
